If you stood on an average street corner in New York City and asked a random person walking by if they'd heard of COYOTE or WHISPER or any of the other sex worker's rights organizations out there, our guess is that the answer would be no. Not only that, but it's likely that the average street-working prostitute has also never heard of these organizations.We want to know why that is. Maybe we've just got ENQUIRING minds, but we thought it was an important enough question to build this website in order to draw the answers. And we're not stopping there either! Armed with our Hi8 video camera, two burly bodyguards and some Ivy-League educations we're hitting the streets of the City that Never Sleeps; we're making a documentary.
The over-arching purpose of this project is to see whether or not sex-workers in general, and streetwalkers in particular, feel it is important to organize around issues concerning their work. If they do, do they join organizations that exist or do they create their own political/support networks? Do they feel that these efforts pay off for them?
Well, it's not sex, but it sure is SEXY. We hope that your curiosity has been piqued and that you'll follow us inside. There's more inside-- lots more!-- but how will you know if you don't go?
